In our International Inbound program, we help impoverished children from other countries by bringing them to the United States to receive donated medical care. Children are referred by international partners, relatives and other charitable organizations.
We review medical records and photographs of the child; we then identify physicians, surgeons and hospitals that are able to provide pro bono care. We apply for the child’s visa. If the child does not have relatives in the area, we recruit a temporary host family to care for the child for the duration of medical treatment. We utilize Airline Ambassadors who provide volunteer off-duty airline personnel to escort the child to and from the U.S., when a parent is not accompanying the child. We remain in constant contact with health care providers and host families.

Meet Amir G. -- We first met Amir in 2001 when he was three years old. He traveled from Russia to New Jersey, where he received surgery from the Craniofacial team at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for severe cleft lip and palate. He returned to Russia in 2002. Healing the Children® brought Amir back to New Jersey in 2009. He is receiving follow-up craniofacial and orthodontic medical care.
