Healing the Children® New Jersey is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing donated medical care to children in need in the U.S. and worldwide.
Vision
We envision a world where every child has access to medical care.
History
Healing the Children® is a national organization founded in Spokane, Washington in 1979 to provide donated medical care to needy children. Today, there are 13 chapters across the country. The New Jersey was founded in 1981.
Programs
Domestic Aid: We help children in New Jersey by purchasing medications, funding specialized equipment and special needs care, and by advocating on a family’s behalf.
Medical Teams Abroad: Our volunteer teams travel throughout the world to provide donated surgery and other medical care to children.
International Inbound: We welcome individual children from their native countries to the United States to receive donated medical care.
Accomplishments - 2009
Domestic Aid: HTC helped 47 children from New Jersey.
Medical Teams Abroad: We traveled to Dominican Republic (2 trips), Ecuador (2 trips) and Thailand. 937 children were evaluated; 313 received medical care.
International Inbound: We hosted 21 children from Dominican Republic, Haiti, Nigeria, Panama, Poland, Russia and Ukraine.
International Aid: We provided medical equipment to Asociacion Dominicana de Rehabilitacion Hospital in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Statistics
Healing the Children® New Jersey has helped more than 30,000 children, traveled to 15 countries, and welcomed children to the U.S. from 86 countries.
Challenges
We receive more requests for assistance than we can fulfill due to lack of funds. The cost of medical supplies and equipment, travel, lodging and shipping has escalated. New host families must be recruited.
